When life no longer feels like it fits
Updated: Sep 23

When a core part of you may already know that something needs to change then perhaps it’s time to honour that voice.
The women I work with come from many different backgrounds, with unique stories, challenges and experiences. Yet many arrive with a shared sense that something no longer feels right—that the way they have been living is becoming harder to sustain.
Life has become harder.
They feel overwhelmed by responsibilities that once felt manageable. Anxiety seems to appear out of nowhere. They are emotionally exhausted, constantly giving to everyone else while quietly wondering where they disappeared to in the process.
Many have spent years coping by staying busy, being dependable, caring for others and pushing through. Working, parenting, managing relationships, carrying the emotional load for everyone around them. From the outside, life may look successful.
Underneath, it feels very different.
Patience wears thin. Sleep becomes elusive. Small problems feel enormous. Confidence fades. The effort required simply to get through the day becomes increasingly exhausting.
For many women, these changes emerge during perimenopause and menopause.
While hot flushes are widely recognised, the emotional and psychological impact is often far less understood. Depression, anxiety, sleep disruption, brain fog, emotional overwhelm and loss of confidence are all common experiences during this transition. Hormonal changes affect not only the body but also the brain, nervous system and emotional wellbeing.
Menopause often arrives alongside other significant life transitions. Children become more independent or leave home. Careers shift. Relationships change. Ageing parents require care. Questions about identity, purpose and the life ahead become harder to ignore.
This is why menopause can feel like far more than a collection of symptoms.
It is often a psychological turning point.
The patterns that helped you survive for years—people-pleasing, over-functioning, perfectionism, always putting yourself last—may not be working for you anymore. What once kept life together begins to leave you depleted, anxious and disconnected from yourself.
Counselling offers a space to understand what is happening beneath the surface—not simply to manage symptoms, but to explore the deeper patterns that have shaped how you relate to yourself, to others and to the world.
Together we might explore:
• anxiety, chronic stress and nervous system exhaustion
• burnout and emotional depletion
• people-pleasing, perfectionism and over-functioning
• changing identity, purpose and life direction
• relationship patterns and healthier boundaries
• grief, loss and significant life transitions
• concerns, regrets around ageing, time passing or the “unlived life”
• the emotional impact of perimenopause and menopause
• childhood experiences, attachment patterns and the beliefs that continue to influence your life today
You do not have to keep carrying everything on your own.
Sometimes the first step is simply allowing yourself to ask,
"What do I need now?"
Counselling can be a good place to help you sift through what's important and what needs to change.
